I’ve seen it countless times when it comes to marketing your law practice;

  • You try pay per click for a month,
  • Then it’s SEO for 3 months,
  • Then a new company pitches you on Google Maps and you try that,
  • Finally, the social media bug bites you and you waste a few months on THAT…

…and after your wallet is empty, you’re drained both financially and emotionally, and hope has been stepped on, driven over, and squashed…

You say marketing doesn’t work.

Here’s the rub:

The more marketing schemes you try, the more exposure you’ll get as to what makes you money and what steals your money, But…

You’ve got to not only give each marketing method enough time to work, you gotta track its results and hold it accountable…

…or you’re wasting time, money and learning NOTHING.

Here’s a timetable cheat sheet that will tell you how long it will take to get results, listed by marketing method:

  • Direct Mail (400 letters and/or 6 weeks)
  • SEO (8-12 months, but worth the patience)
  • Pay Per Click (100 clicks and/or 8 weeks)
  • Social Media (don’t even bother)
  • Building Referrals (6-12 months)
  • Google Maps (same as SEO)
  • Page 1 of Google for X Keywords (misguided method – not real SEO)
  • Newsletter to Past Clients (6-12 months)

In closing, here’s a story of one of my attorney clients you’ll appreciate:

Firm had 3 partners, and we started SEO, and website redesign. After 3 months, they have 1 Google visitor a day to their site.

No phone calls. No results.

Six months go by, and they’re now at 15-20 visitors a month, and the phone is ringing once or twice a week with potentials.

Fast forward to 18 months, and they’re at 100+ visitors a DAY, and their phone rings every single blessed day with potential clients and twice on Mondays. (seriously).

They went from spending $1,500 a month with me, making no money, to making $15,000+ a month, every month.

If they QUIT after 3-4 months and gave up, like some clients do, they’d be nowhere today, possibly out of business.

…Both they and I OVER estimated what could be accomplished in 6 months, but UNDER estimated what we’ve accomplished in 18 months.

And they’ve got a DARN PROFITABLE website, a money-making asset that delights them every single month, makes them money, puts them at ease, more than pays the bills, and in hindsight…?

It took patience, attention, and time.
